Hi @Rashida Kanchwala I saw on the Kedro Showcase from October that you are starting to do some planning for Kedro viz development. I'd love to participate if possible. We think kedro viz is a great tool for us to communicate with 'non-technical' stakeholders. For us, one key feature/requirement would be to extend the types of information that can be displayed in the sidebar about a dataset or the intuition behind a node. For example, for each dataset, we store a yaml file with metadata about the dataset. We might want to read in a few choice fields from that file, display a description of the dataset, or even simply being able to display a url to our docs page, where each dataset will basically have its own page.

Hi Asch! It sounds a bit like you want what weโ€™re proposing in https://github.com/kedro-org/kedro-viz/issues/1136

Yes indeed, Merel is correct! This ticket will track an addition to the sidebar (aka metadata panel) in which we'll aim to allow users to preview the contents of a dataset. If you'd like to see anything else added to the sidebar, it would be amazing if you could add a comment to that ticket or even create a new feature request โ˜บ๏ธ happy to discuss it further here, too.

Hi, sorry I missed this...Indeed, this is very close to what we are looking for. I do think it would be nice if we could add a url and a text description. We envision using kedro viz not just for the analytics and engineer crowd but as a visual aid when interacting with our more 'non-technical' stakeholders. I'm sort of imagining the 'show code' button for function nodes, but for datasets.

Thank you!!
