Out of curiosity, do you (or anyone else :) ) have any strong views on the Iceberg vs Delta topic?
d
So we on the Kedro team are keeping an eye on it since we want to future proof ourselves and build the best experience for users
My thoughts are the following:
• databricks is the most common platform for Kedro users, so delta support has been there for a while • Iceberg definitely has the momentum and seems like the longer term horse to back • The table format is one thing, but it increasingly looks like there will be vendor lock in at the catalog level (see s3 tables this month) • Overall the unbundling of the data stack is a good thing - swappable storage, catalog, query engine and table format are big steps forward for the industry. At this point it’s still hard to see which way the wind is blowing and there is a fair amount of hype cycle BS that one can ignore.

Thank you! I appreciate the detailed response. What about your personal opinion on the features each one offers?

I think it's clear Iceberg is going to win
the next question is which flavour of Iceberg, if you're on AWS... s3 tables is a good bet
