I love this heading

For all the millions of dollars you raised off the backs of the jinja, how much have you donated back?
I think the perspective is interesting - but is also possibly a function of zero interest rate phenomenon which is coming to a abrupt halt
with less room to create new stuff consolidation has to happen

I think people also get pissed when someone gives them free candy and then starts charging for it. it's a natural reaction and should make us reflect on the bait-and-switch dynamics that operate in the software industry

yes and the recent non-open sourcing moves from the likes of Hashicorp give pause for thought, as well as what Elastic had to do with the ELK stack

To be fair, the dbt use case isn't about them starting to charge; it's about them changing their pricing plan.
It's another thing to reflect on, that a lot of organizations happily go all-in on vendor products. Price hikes are an inherent risk when you use a commercial platform and don't weigh the pros/cons of not tying everything to that platform.

I suppose the point in dbt is that they can change their minds anytime
